Behold! It’s Our X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Trailer Breakdown

“I saw the end of the world. I could feel all this death.”

Those are the ominous words of young Jean Grey (played by Sophie Turner) to Professor Xavier in the first full trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse.

This heavy, somber, and dark trailer shows that the battle to be waged this time is not only against an enemy much more powerful than anything the X-Men have faced before, but the stakes are much greater than they have ever been.

“Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign.”

The trailer shows that Jennifer Lawrence‘s Mystique/Raven has decided to fight alongside her old friend, Charles Xavier, to help his X-Men save the world from destruction by this ancient and mythical mutant.

“Wherever this being was, he always had four followers he would imbue with power,” says Rose Byrne’s Moira MacTaggert.

“Like the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse. He got that one from the bible.”

“Or the bible got it from him.”

The trailer is full of iconic mutants (Jubilee!) and explosions, and looks to be the darkest X-Men film yet. (But we do finally get a young, bald Professor X James McAvoy, so it’s not all bad.)
