First RESIDENT EVIL: VENDETTA Trailer Brings the Zombies and the Opera

Last week, Capcom revealed that a new Resident Evil animated movie is coming next year. However, Capcom declined to share many specifics about Resident Evil: Vendetta (which will be called Biohazard: Vendetta in Japan) aside from mentioning that it will be an original storyline. Now, the first teaser trailer for the film is out and we have a few more hints about what the movie will be about.

Via Kotaku, the Resident Evil: Vendetta trailer is also light on specific details. The film appears to once again place Chris Redfield in the lead as he and his paramilitary team storm a mansion that looks suspiciously similar to the one that Redfield and his partner Jill Valentine explored in the very first Resident Evil game. So far, there’s no sign of Jill in this story, but there’s definitely zombies or zombie-like creatures inhabiting the mansion.

We can’t tell if we’re meant to recognize the enigmatic figure who is briefly glimpsed near the end of the footage, but the operatic score was a nice touch. We’d still bet that Albert Wesker will play a role in this film, as he’s been Chris’ personal nemesis since the beginning of the franchise. And if Wesker didn’t cheat death this time, then we wouldn’t put it past him to leave some nasty surprises behind for Chris to deal with.

Takanori Tsujimoto has been announced as the director of this film, which will be executive produced by The Grudge creator Takashi Shimizu. Capcom has announced that Resident Evil: Vendetta will get a spring 2017 release in Japan, with a North American release likely to follow.
