First Look at Netflix’s MARVEL’S DAREDEVIL from NYCC

Lots of craziness out of New York today, and not the least of it concerned Marvel‘s newest live-action offering, this of course being the Netflix series Daredevil, which will be the first of five such Marvel projects to hit Netflix in the future, those others being Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and The Defenders, which will feature a team up of all the previous characters. On the panel that took place today at New York Comic-Con, we found out more about this highly-anticipated program, including new cast announcements, a look at some official images, and the people in attendance even got to see some footage of the show itself. Most intriguing.

Of the cast to be announced today, they were: Ayelet Zurer (Vanessa Marianna, Kingpin’s love interest), Vondie Curtis Hall (Ben Urich, newspaper man), Bob Gunton (Leland Owlsley, known elsewhere as the villain Owl) and Toby Leonard Moore (Wesley, Kingpin’s right hand stooge). They, of course, join the characters and actors already announced, who are Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), with Rosario Dawson (whose role was revealed as Claire Temple) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin himself). That’s quite a good cast, overall, wouldn’t you say?

The footage shown, albeit very brief, can be described thusly (from Newsarama):
“A woman slowly opens the door to an apartment (It’s Page), there’s blood on the floor and the room is dark. She fins something in a vent. Someone sneaks up behind her and attacks her, slamming her into the wall and knocking her to the ground. And in comes Daredevil, in what looks like is likely an early makeshift costume – yeah, it’s all black, straight up ninja looking. Big fight scene commences, and both men go crashing through a window onto the rain-soaked pavement below.”

Also shown were some images and concept art, including the aforementioned “straight up ninja looking” early costume worn by Matt Murdock, which looks actually, to my eyes, more like Dread Pirate Roberts with no eye holes. This image was taken from a drawing Frank Miller did in his seminal book Daredevil: Man Without Fear, along with a bit of concept art done by Marvel head Joe Quesada.

The footage will apparently be made available in the very near future, but for now we can just look at these images and get excited for more Marvel on our TV screens. The series is, of course, executive produced by Steven S. DeKnight, who is also the showrunner, and Drew Goddard, who also wrote the first two episodes along with Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb. Again, great, great people involved, and like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., all from the Whedon camp.

How does this early Daredevil costume strike you? It surely won’t be around too long, or one would hope anyway. Let us know below.

thats actually art by John Romita JR.

  3. Jeff says:

I just love how in the image of him as Matt Murdock, he’s sporting a bruise. It seems like he’s always got a bruise going in the comics.

  4. Brian says:

It will just be a first costume in his early career, probably his first few nights out. The same thing was done in Batman begins. He will dawn the red costume later on
