First Impressions of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

I’m hooked on a feeling, you guys. A feeling that Guardians of the Galaxy isn’t just one of the best films of the summer, but one of Marvel’s best to date. The sci-fi action comedy, which gives us our first glimpse of Marvel’s Cosmic Universe, is a triumph that manages to take one of the kookier concepts (on paper, at least) in the Marvel-verse and transform it into a heartfelt, action-packed, and consistently laugh-out-loud funny film that will have you clamoring for more talking raccoons and giant, sentient tree people.

Although the film doesn’t open in theaters until August 1, a few of us here at Nerdist have already seen the film in all of its 1980s-tinged glory. The review embargo lifted today, and Kyle Anderson will have a full review for you next week, but in the meantime editor-in-chief Brian Walton and I put together a video blog of our reactions to Guardians of the Galaxy. Spoiler alert: we really, really liked it, and we think you will too. We did our damnedest to make sure there were no spoilers in the video, so you should be able to watch this without fear of having anything ruined for you.

Are you excited for Guardians of the Galaxy? Have you seen it? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Self-interested anti-hero dragged into fighting hoards of weird aliens and saving the world. So, Indiana Jones filtered through Star Wars?

I haven’t been this excited about a new movie for years!
