First Image of DOCTOR WHO Premiere Ep “Deep Breath”

We haven’t been getting much, but the recent teasers have been enough to make our mouths begin to water. Entertainment Weekly has provided the first image of actual, sanctioned footage from Doctor Who Series 8’s premiere episode, “Deep Breath,” which is set to premiere August 23rd, be feature-length, and is directed by Ben Wheatley.

The episode will place the newly-regenerated Twelfth Doctor (P-Caps) and his companion Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) to the Victorian era and will see the welcome return of the “Paternoster Gang” (a name I truly can’t stand, to be honest), consisting of Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh), her wife Jenny (Catrin Stewart), and their faithful Sontaran manservant Strax (Dan Starkey).

In the briefest of blurbs, Coleman is quoted as saying the new Doctor is “a lot fiercer. The man is a total adrenaline junkie.” Funny that he’s tied for the oldest actor ever to play the Doctor and yet he’s a wild man. I think that will be an excellent contrast to the goofy, grandfatherly Eleventh Doctor played by the youngest actor.

Executive producer and lead writer Steven Moffat was pretty typically coy about the new series, but he did say, “There’s no point pretending that it’s not the most interesting, dynamic thing that you’ve got to sell in that first episode. It’s going to be about ‘What’s he like? How’s he different?’ I suppose it feels a bit like a character piece, but there’s plenty of action and nonsense and jeopardy, as there ever is in Doctor Who.”

We’ll all find out together when BBC America airs Doctor Who “Deep Breath” on Saturday, August 23rd, at 8/7c.

While the episode did have some good points,  I  would’ve preferred it if the tyrannosaurs had a better time than it did (I especially wish what happened to it hadn’t happened).    I even wonder if a dinosaur was even required for the plot.

The Paternoster gang are what happens when the BBC can’t afford to make the spinoff that the DR. Who showrunner pitches.

“can we play with some grenades?”  Strax rules!!!! 🙂

  7. Paul Morris says:

The Paternoster Gang are awful. Was hoping for new and exciting, but we get the lesbian detectives, and their stupid Sontaran, again!

And what, fans were thrilled with Unit at first, during the original serial.
But over time, it allowed fans to reconnect.
The gang could (optimistically) add some interesting stability to the show. I agree completely with others, the use of them has shown poor choices as a show filler.
Cheers to the new Moffat Muppet Brigade and may better writers give you character.
      Happy viewing, Flippo

Pity he hasn’t gone back to the Victorian Clara without the modern Oswin – just to ‘save’ her… Now that would be exciting!

    • anon says:

That was the whole point of “The Name of the Doctor.” Clara is reborn in every piece of his lifetimes, and she always dies to save him.

  9. paige says:

P.C was sid’s dad in skins
and was in torchwood children of earth.
How can i see him as the doctor now?>!?!!

  10. Michael says:

I’ll say it: while I find the Paternoster gang an interesting concept, with the exception of “A Good Man Goes to War” and “The Name of the Doctor,” I hate how they’ve been used on every single episode where they’ve appeared.

  11. rachel says:

    p-caps! love it…..can’t wait

  12. Oliver Nilsson says:

P-Cap? You’ve been listening to RFS, haven’t you? Hehe
