Gabe Diani and Etta Devine each comprise one half of the filmmaking duo Diani & Devine. They’re responsible for the indie comedy/horror flick The Selling and together they edited & released Adventures of Huckleberry Finn – Robotic Edition. Roughly a year and a half ago, they launched a Kickstarter campaign for their newest project, Diani & Devine Meet The Apocalypse. I first came to know about it thanks to a podcast interview right here on the Nerdist Network. Etta stopped by Janet Varney’s The JV Club (Janet is also a co-star in the film!) to discuss past & future projects, and as a result of that chat I decided to become a Kickstarter backer.
In the movie, the duo play comedians who find the apocalypse to be frankly no more challenging than the struggle of navigating Hollywood. You hear the word “no” a lot in Tinseltown, and you hear the word “no” a lot after the complete breakdown of civilization, it turns out. Now you know why so many people in the entertainment business seem to survive in the big budget world-destruction flicks: Hollywood is a de facto prepping scenario for the end times!
Back during the Kickstarter campaign, Janet filmed a brilliant promo for the fundraising efforts wherein she cosplayed as beloved character Korra whom she voices from Nickelodeon’s recently wrapped The Legend of Korra. It was absurd and hilarious and her dog Scott even stood in as Korra’s Polar Bear Dog, Naga! I must say, Scott really nailed his lines. I’ve included it below, because even though the campaign is essentially over (producing credits can still be yours, though!) it’s too good not to revisit.
Janet, Gabe, and Etta are joined in the film by a host of other awesome actors. Jonathan Silverman, Barry Bostwick, Armin Shimerman, Cole Stratton, Kitty Swink, and Dawn Didawick round out the cast, as do two other special cast members: Watson and Mrs. Peel, Gabe and Etta’s dog and cat! It turns out Watson has a knack for breaking-and-entering with his accomplice Gabe:
