First ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS Teaser Is Here

Disney’s new Alice Through the Looking Glass teaser doesn’t reveal one of the best monsters from literature, but I hope the shivers move up and down your spine reading this little snippet from “Jabberwocky” if only so you’re totally in the right mindset to see it:

“‘Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.”

“Jabberwocky” first appeared in Alice Through The Looking Glass in 1871. Everyone knows Alice went to Wonderland and came back to tell the tale, but fewer people are familiar with the original book’s sequel. Never fear though. It’s 2015 and movie studios wouldn’t be movie studios if they didn’t mine the libraries of classic literature for inspiration.

Disney‘s live-action Alice in Wonderland was a gorgeous display of Tim Burton‘s vision and Carroll’s beautiful storytelling when it was released in 2010. And given this teensy little teaser the studio released this morning, Alice Through The Looking Glass (please stop calling it Alice in Wonderland 2, Internet), its sequel is looking to be another stunner. Check it out below.

It’s only 11 seconds long, but I think you can tell that director James Bobin is embracing the over-the-top theatricality of the first live-action Alice and maybe the bright costumes and world too. Actors Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, and Michael Sheen are all reprising their roles from the first film. Very little has been released about the upcoming film, which doesn’t debut until May 2016, but with this first teaser online, I am very hopeful that we’ll be seeing more bits and pieces in the coming weeks. Really it seems like the kind of thing that is prime for a Christmas trailer debut, don’t you think?
