Final Teaser Posters for STAR TREK BEYOND Feature Chris Pine and Idris Elba

Over the past few weeks, Paramount Pictures has been ramping up the promotion for this summer’s upcoming Star Trek film, Star Trek Beyond. First, a large “fan event” was held that premiered the new trailer, which was much more well received by fans than the previous trailer, where the uses of the Beastie Boys’ song “Sabotage” and images of Captain Kirk riding around on a dirt bike seemed very un-Star Trek.

The new trailer seemed to appeal to Trek fans and showcased more story elements, making it look like less of a generic action picture. The fan event also showcased a special poster for the film, directly inspired by the poster for the original Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Then Paramount started rolling out the individual character posters for the film, which initially featured Zachary Quinto’s Spock, Anton Yelchin’s Chekov, Karl Urban’s Doctor McCoy, Zoe Saldana’s Uhura, Simon Pegg’s Scotty, and John Cho’s Sulu, and newcomer Sofia Boutella as one of our alien adversaries.

It seems the folks at Paramount were saving the best for last, as the official Star Trek site just released what one assumes are the final two teaser posters, featuring Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk and Idris Elba as our lead villain, the alien Krall. Each of these posters have what appears to be Krall’s alien fleet bursting through space through what appears to be the Starfleet insignia.

Star Trek Beyond is set to hit theaters on July 22, which happens to be just a few weeks before the Star Trek franchise celebrates its 50th anniversary. The original series episode “The Man Trap” was first broadcast on NBC September 8, 1966, setting off an enormous franchise that spawned five (soon to be six) live-action television series, an animated show, and now thirteen feature films. The last Trek film, Star Trek Into Darkness, was not as well received by the fans, and the hope is that with Star Trek Beyond, 13 is Trek‘s lucky number.
