FINAL FANTASY IX Coming to PC and Mobile Platforms

Square Enix is definitely trying to make the devout Final Fantasy fans happy.

The company announced that Final Fantasy IX (arguably one of the best in the series) will be making a comeback in Japan sometime in 2016 on both PC and smartphones. There’s no word on whether the PSX gem will make its way west, but practically all of the PC/mobile FF releases have eventually made their way to the States.

Square Enix has promised high-definition graphics, newly added achievements, auto-save, high speed mode, and several game-boosting features for the release. Peep the slick trailer above.

This does sound like it could end up being the definitive version of this classic title. Obviously better graphics are always appreciated, but the high speed mode, which has made an appearance on other Final Fantasy re-releases, is brilliant. Like the name suggests, the mode gives players the ability to fast forward any scene in the game–even battle scenes. You know, just in case you don’t have 100-plus hours to spare.

What’s more obscure, however, are the mention of game-boosting features. This could mean that you might be able to turn off random encounters like on the recent PS4 port of Final Fantasy VII, or it could really mean something we’ve yet to encounter. If it does indeed make its way to the States, which I’m sure it will, I hope it will hit home consoles as well.

Do you guys think this will be coming to North America? Will you be purchasing this classic on PC or mobile? Which is your favorite Final Fantasy game? Let us know in the comments below.
