Get Sauced on FINAL FANTASY’s 30th Anniversary Commemorative Whisky

Three decades ago, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy franchise landed on Nintendo and quickly became one of the most popular role-playing games of the 8-bit era. And while the name of the franchise has proven to be a bit of a misnomer—because there’s seemingly no end to Final Fantasy—through various sequels and spinoffs, the FF titles remain among the elite RPGs. Now, Square Enix is celebrating 30 years of Final Fantasy with its very own whisky.

And now we’ve learned—via Food and Wine—that the Scottish distillery Glenfarclas is producing the Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, which was distilled in 1987, the same year the first Final Fantasy was released. Final Fantasy character designer Yoshitaka Amano even designed the label for this whisky, which includes Chocobos, a Moggle, and a few familiar looking crystals.

Right now, the only way to get your hands on the Final Fantasy 30th anniversary whisky is through the Japanese retailer, Shinanoya. Online pre-orders won’t begin until Friday, January 26, but you can purchase it here after that time. Fair warning: this is not going to be cheap. The price per bottle is $330, and there will only be 303 bottles made for this edition. It might even be considered a collectible, if you don’t care to drink it.

So far, we’re not sure what this whisky tastes like, but there’s only one way to find out. That said, if someone wants to send us samples, we’re not hard to find!
