We’re only a little over a month away from the March 25 release of Zack Snyder‘s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the first big-screen, live-action meeting of DC Comics‘ two biggest characters, with some Wonder Woman thrown in to make it more awesome. It seems like only yesterday we were fawning over the Comic-Con trailer, and here we are feasting our hero-loving eyes on the final trailer…and boy, is it a doozy! It covers a lot of the same ground as we’ve seen in the other footage, but with a propelling, rocking underscore to drive home the point that it should be a fun ride.
The main new stuff we have is the opening 45 seconds in which we get to see a short version of a fight between Batman (Ben Affleck) and about two-dozen armed baddies. Luckily, he’s got Alfred (Jeremy Irons) in the Batcave piloting the Batwing. We see that this version of the Dark Knight seems to have no qualms about bashing people through walls and floors and things, but we then hear a version of the time-tested “I’m gettin’ too old for this *bleep*.”
The rest of the trailer is a series of clips combining a lot of things we’ve seen with several things we haven’t. Jesse Eisenberg‘s Lex Luthor still more or less narrates the whole thing with his “man versus god” speech, but we get to see a lot more of Amy Adams‘ Lois Lane (including a Supes + Lois bathtub sexy time shot). Not to mention a good amount of Gal Gadot’s Diana, who of course is the warrior Wonder Woman herself.
What I think is most interesting about this is not who we focus on, but who we don’t: Superman (Henry Cavill). This trailer clearly sets up Batman as the focal point, as his hatred for Superman spurs all of the action. The Man of Steel seems to be much more of an antagonist to Batman than he does a counterpoint protagonist. That, again, is just my reading of this trailer, and it may just have more to do with giving people all the Bats action they could hope for. That moment at the end when Batman’s new suit stops Superman’s punch? Chills!
We’re ridiculously excited about the possibilities and we’ll have the answer to all the questions (possibly ever) when Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice crash-boom-pows its way to theaters on March 25.
