Film Nerdery: Watch Paul Thomas Anderson Interview Martin Scorsese

It’s always awesome when two luminaries in the film world get together to just talk about movies and stuff. For instance, do you guys know that on the Criterion release of The Third Man, there’s a commentary by Steven Soderbergh and Tony Gilroy? How awesome is that?!? But that’s old news. New news is that Paul Thomas Anderson and Martin Scorsese apparently like getting together and chatting every few years. They first convened in 2011 when Scorsese’s Hugo was in theaters and Anderson’s The Master was being post-produced. Seeing as Scorsese has another movie out (The Wolf of Wall Street, of course) and Anderson is working on yet another movie, it seemed like a great time to do it all over again.

The blog Cigarettes & Red Vines, re-posting from Awards Daily, has posted three clips from a recent after-screening Q&A for Wolf conducted by PTA with Scorsese and the man who was First Assistant Director for both directors’ last few movies, Adam Somner.

If you haven’t seen The Wolf of Wall Street, this gets pretty spoilery, but if you have seen it or you don’t care about things being spoilt, then it’s a very entertaining, informative, and awesome discussion about film and filmmaking.

[SIDEBAR: If you haven’t heard Scorsese doing commentary on some of the movies by his idol, Michael Powell, then you ought to do so immediately; watch The Red Shoes and The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp posthaste.]
