In a futuristic world where young people are put through a harrowing test that decides which faction they belong to based on their personalities, a girl named Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) finds out that she is a “Divergent,” someone who doesn’t fit into a category, and that threatens the very fiber of this very regimented society. She teams up with a group of rebels (who put her through other rigorous tests, a theme), and they aim to take on the system and break away from the conformity of everyday life.

Divergent is based on the Veronica Roth Young Adult novel and is directed by Neil Burger, who also directed Limitless and The Illusionist. It’s sort of got a Gattaca or THX 1138 vibe going on. Kate Winslet, Ashley Judd, Maggie Q, Miles Teller, and Theo James (who, believe it or not, isn’t related to James Franco) co-star in the movie, which comes out March 21, 2014.
