Felicia Day Brought Her Memoir to BookCon & Everyone Was Charmed

Friend of Nerdist and Queen Nerd Felicia Day sat down with The Mary Sue EOC Jill Pantozzi at BookCon to talk about her new memoir. If you’re not excited for Felicia’s new book, just leave. Leave right now. Because we here at Nerdist are pumped. The panel was filled with stories and great pop culture talk, and here are the highlights.

First things first, Felicia and Jill agree that Charlize Theron has a very shapely head in Mad Max: Fury Road even though Felicia technically has not seen it yet. And after a few more exchanges about the nerdy happenings of the world, they got down to business to talk You’re Never Weird on the Internet (Almost): A Memoir. Don’t worry, there are original pony drawings included in the text for your enjoyment.

The overall message of the discussion, both between Felicia and Jill, and with the audience Q&A afterwards, was to be true to yourself. As someone who has been around the social web pretty much since the beginning, Day understands the community she creates for on a completely different level than many entertainers, and she wasn’t afraid to get a little weird during the discussion. There were also jokes about spoilers and her awkwardness, and the fun place she plays in Hollywood.

“I’m very killable,” she said seriously before the audience groaned and yelled about spoilers. “It was Doctor Horrible. It was years ago! Sorry!” She didn’t really sound that sorry, but we all laughed regardless.

Day spoke about the realities of acting and creating in Hollywood, a place where you’re useless until you’re very valuable. She also talked about fear and writer’s block, and how she gets past them by remembering the joy she gets from creating for other people who will get a lot of happiness from her work. You’re Never Weird on the Internet (Almost): A Memoir doesn’t hit shelves and screens until August, but we’re listing it as a must-read this summer and counting the days until we get our hands on a copy, even though it will mean winter is that much closer. Until then, we’ll have to be satisfied with enjoying Day’s quirky personality via the internet and enjoying the pictures we took during the panel including this one of her literal dropping of names. She made sure to tell us how hard it is to work with hot men like Jensen Ackles, Jared Padaleki and Nathan Fillion.
