Feel the Burn with Wendy’s New Jalapeño Fresco Spicy Chicken Sandwich

If the rise and world domination of Sriracha tells us anything, it’s that people love spicy food and things are just starting to heat up. Wendy’s, the restaurant chain known as much for its carrot-topped icon as for its signature frozen frosty treats, is dipping it’s toe into the heat game with their new Jalapeño Fresco Spicy Chicken Sandwich.

Spicy is putting it mildly; we’re talking 10 different sources of heat: red pepper, chili pepper, jalapeño that keep the seeds aka the hottest part of the pepper, paprika, black pepper, cayenne, capsicum, habanero, red jalapeño, and ghost pepper – one of the hottest chili peppers in the world.

The fiery sandwich is made up of a chicken breast bathed in a signature blend of spices, then topped with diced jalapeños. On top of that, a hefty helping of specially made ghost pepper sauce. Can you feel your eyes burning just from reading this? There’s a tiny bit of coolness to combat this heat battle, melted cheese sauce, Pepper Jack cheese, and red onions. Still, not even the bun is safe from the heat, as it too is studded with red jalapeños.

This sandwich almost didn’t hit the market, as focus group testers deemed the items too hot even for heat-seekers. Just to give you an idea of the level of intensity we’re talking about here, Wendy’s made up a handy chart to show you the increasing fire that you should probably bring with you to the doctor after you eat one of these monsters.

As if the flaming heat of the sandwich wasn’t enough to mess with your insides, you can also order it with a side of Ghost Pepper Fries that are topped with cheese sauce, diced, fresh jalapeños, shredded cheddar cheese and even more ghost pepper sauce. Ouch.

The Jalapeño Fresco Spicy Chicken Sandwich is available for a limited time at Wendy’s nationwide.

Can you handle one of these extreme spicy sandwiches? Let us know in the comments!
