Oh Japan, we want to hug you the way Godzilla wants to destroy you! The Land of the Rising Sun consistently busts out with the most brilliant and bizarre foods, such as water cakes, chocolates sliced like cheese, and pooping and vomiting egg yolks, as well as the most delightful little tchotchkes, like these butt-poking figures. And now, in what can really only be considered the next logical step, we get to combine the munchies with the novelties with a new set of hyper-realistic food bookmarks.
Fellow foodies and bibliophiles, please feast your eyes on these mouthwatering manga markers:
The bookmarks (more images of which can be found in the gallery below), were recently reported on by Spoon & Tamago, the site with roots in both New York City and Tokyo that’s dedicated to keeping track of “whatâs going on in the Japanese art & design industry and where [it’s] headed.” The actual maker of the bookmarks is Tokyo Kitsch, and its website can be found here (fair warning:Â Japanese seems to really stretch the limits of Google translate).
Eight different foods are offered, including bacon, eggs, toast, pancakes, salmon, seaweed, watermelon, and popsicle. (We too noted that breakfast foods are disproportionately represented here, but hey, it’s the most important meal of the day.)
Each food marker is between 1,086 and 1,620 yen, or about $10 to $15, although Spoon & Tamago says Tokyo Kitsch is all sold out right now. But if you’re desperate to set up a buffet between your book pages sooner rather than later, you can keep an eye out for restocking updates via Tokyo Kitsch’s Twitter or Facebook accounts.
Are you ready to throw down your hard-earned bacon for some of these eggs? Is this toast worth the cheddar?! Let us know your your thoughts in the comments below!
