Fat Unicorn Cakes Aren’t a Myth, but They Are Magical

Imagine it’s your birthday and your loved ones tell you they got you an amazing cake, but when you go to admire it in all its delicious glory you discover someone has already taken a big bite out of it. How mad would you be? Would you immediately turn into a dessert rage monster? We would (oh, how we would!). That is unless it turned out that big missing “bite” was actually part of the cake and it was “taken” by an adorable fat unicorn.

We first learned about this amazing new cake fad over at Buzzfeed, and it’s one of the best confectionery designs we have ever come across. We’ve seen unicorn cakes before, but they have been more in the traditional unicorn mold: elegant, sophisticated, clean. Even some weird unicorn foods we’ve come across previously still feel like they are based on the typical idea of a unicorn.

That’s why these are so funny and unique. To paraphrase Mrs. Clause, “Who’s ever heard of a fat unicorn!” But that’s also why these aren’t just a testament to the talented bakers who made them; they are a perfect homage to cake itself. As though even an ideal, beautiful magical creature can’t control itself when it comes across a delicious tasty sweet.

As you can imagine these are proving to be a big hit, which is why they are popping up at numerous bakeries. That means we get to admire even more version of them.

But if you still don’t like the idea of anyone–even a magical edible creature–eating some of your cake, you could always get a fat unicorn cake where it is enjoying Taco Tuesday.

But remember, the standard for being able to do this to our cake, without us getting very angry, is not one you can reach, because you aren’t also part of the cake. We love these fat unicorns, but that’s also because we can eat them too.

Which one of these cakes would you most want to have? Take a bite out of our comments section and let us know.
