In order to get the attention of the people who are working on the upcoming Die Hard prequel, screenwriter Eric D. Wilkinson took out a full-page ad in The Hollywood Reporter to write a letter pitching his idea for what the sixth Die Hard movie should be, and really, his idea wasn’t so bad. He also seems to have diagnosed the problem with the Die Hard sequels: “I know that I speak for a number of other fans when I say that that [sic] the problem with them is that they’re missing the one key ingredient which made the original so great: an ordinary man in extraordinary circumstances.”
Wilkinson was hoping to get the attention of key figures involved in the movie, and it looks like his plan worked. Bruce Willis, John McClane himself, was asked by The Hollywood Reporter at the Broadway opening of Misery about the pitch, which he said he had not yet seen. They briefly summarized it for him, and Willis gave a sort of non-answer: “It seems far away right now. I don’t know.â€
For one, Willis will be involved in the Broadway production of Misery until mid-February, so he has enough on his plate right now without thinking about his next film. It also doesn’t seem like there’s too much that’s concrete about the proposed Die Hard prequel: essentially all we know is that Willis is on board with the concept. That doesn’t mean that a script is ready yet, or that the movie will actually get made.
Regardless, Wilkinson’s letter has gone farther than he thought it would. Around when it was published, Wilkinson said, “I’m not going to hear from them. This is going to trend for a couple days, and then I’m going to back to doing what it is that I do.”
