Batman has been around for over 70 years. With that breadth of history under his batwings, changes in appearance are inevitable and probably necessary—one outfit for that long would be boring. Batman’s costumes have varied between comics, video games, television, and film, over the years. And when you add in the variety of Batman substitutes on various Earths in the DC Comics multiverse, the Batsuit wardrobe is practically endless—it would take tons of closet space to hold everything. But artist Derek Nochefranca wasn’t intimidated by the many stylings of Bruce Wayne. He tackled an immense undertaking with his 77 Years of Batsuits project.

Derek illustrated a wide and impressive selection of Bat-costumes from across the eras. Exhibit A: Batman’s original costume from 1939 complete with purple gloves:

This shinier, lighter version of Batman is from the Gothtopia arc from Detective Comics. It was depicted in a hallucination induced by Scarecrow:
