Fan Art Friday #78 – STAR WARS Meets Cinco de Mayo, and More by Jose Emroca Flores

The last week has certainly been eventful. The calendar brought Star Wars Day, a.k.a. May the Fourth, as well as Cinco de Mayo, and even the Revenge of the Fifth (yeah, that one’s maybe a bit of a stretch). So many tacos and lightsabers. Whew. To celebrate, Fandango worked with artist Jose Emroca Flores to create an illustration to capture the essence of both holidays in a single image. Behold, Star Wars meets Cinco de Mayo:

It’s hard for me to choose my favorite part about this creation. I think it has to be the Greedo piñata. Or maybe the roses in Leia’s hair. Or… no, I give up. I can’t pick.

Flores told Fandango, “I imagined the buildings in Puebla were secretly spaceships that would take off in a moments notice. Mexico would also have their version of Lukas Eskywalkers, Princesa Leia, and Chuey.”

He has a large portfolio, so I rounded up some other examples of Flores’ work for this week’s Fan Art Friday. You can see said examples in the gallery below. I’ve included one of his original illustrations (which are lovely and storybook-like) as well as some fan art inspired by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Super Mario Bros., and Spawn. If you want to get your eyeballs on all of Flores’ creations, visit his website, then browse and/or purchase prints.

What do you think of the May the Fourth and Cinco de Mayo mash-up? Did you manage to combine your festivities this week? Let me know in the comments.
