Fan Art Friday #68 – Wands from HARRY POTTER

You never know where you’ll stumble across fan art. I recently took the Warner Bros. Studio Tour in Los Angeles in hopes of spotting the recently rebuilt Stars Hollow for the Gilmore Girls Netflix revival (they were filming so we couldn’t see anything), when the tour made its stop at a museum on the lot. The bottom floor of the museum is all about celebrating Batman, with the upstairs devoted to Harry Potter. The exhibit features costumes, props, framed art from books—in short, it’s almost as cool getting invited to attend Hogwarts.

One corner of the museum was devoted to a display of fan art, specifically the work of Hilary Huckins-Weidner. She completed a series of sketches depicting the wands as they were described by J.K. Rowling in the Harry Potter books and donated them to the Warner Bros. Historical Foundation in 2011. Since her drawings are based on the page, they look somewhat different from the designs seen in the films, but they’re equally lovely.

Hilary’s take on Harry’s wand:

And Voldemort’s:

You can find more of Hilary’s wand studies in the gallery below–specifically the ones for Ron, Hermione, and Dumbledore. The rest of her sketches are collected at her website, and they’re also on display at the Warner Bros. Museum in Los Angeles. You have to book the Studio Tour in order to gain access to the musuem.

Which wand in the Harry Potter stories is your favorite? Do you own any replicas? Let me know in the comments.
