Fan Art Friday #57 – Superhero Diary Series by Ellen Jin

What do superheroes do when they’re not out saving the day? Where does Darth Vader go for a snack when the Death Star cafeteria is closed? These are all important questions, and in today’s Fan Art Friday, we’re exploring the answers with Ellen Jin. She’s an artist with experience at Disney Toon Studios and DreamWorks and does positively gorgeous background paintings. She also creates delightful portraits of the everyday lives of heroes and villains in her Superhero Diary series.

I came across Jin’s work at Long Beach Comic Con and fell head over heels. In her world, Batman visits the taco truck, Superman takes Krypto for a stroll in the sky, and Wonder Woman and Batgirl have what I imagine is the best day ever shopping and catching up. One of her recent pieces features Darth Vader carefully considering donuts. Best or best?

Visit the gallery below to see more everyday superhero portraits. Then, head to Facebook to keep up with all of Ellen’s work (she also has a series of beautiful superhero haute couture illustrations). If you’re interested in getting prints or arranging a commission, reach out to her there or catch up with her at a convention.

Which of these illustrations is your favorite? Let me know in the comments. I’m in love with the idea of Darth Vader being a fan of donuts. I’m totally picturing him taking a box of donuts back to his meditation chamber to devour them in private. There’s no way he’d share them with anyone else.
