Fan Art Friday #56 – The Art Awakens

The release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is just over a month away. The constant state of excitement I’m calling home may kill me. I’ll do my best to hang in though, and special events are helping, like Season of the Force (it opens at Disneyland on November 16) and the Art Awakens exhibit.

The Art Awakens from HP and Lucasfilm opens this weekend at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles. The pieces in the show feature art inspired by the Star Wars saga and The Force Awakens in particular. In addition to including work from professional artists such as 100% Soft, Dave Perillo, and Tom Whalen, the show will highlight the five winners of the Art Awakens Fan Art Competition. The program allowed fans to submit work to Tumblr, and as you can imagine, it led to fans turning in all sorts of beautiful, different, awesome art.

In honor of the exhibit opening–it will be on display November 14 and 15–I thought it was a fine time to turn the attention of Fan Art Friday onto the submissions. We highlighted The Force Awakens in December of last year, and we’ve learned a bit more about the film since then. The Art Awakens Tumblr has illustrations of everyone from Captain Phasma to Rey to Finn to Kylo Ren to all the ships… basically, it’s a smorgasbord of pretty.

These are some of my favorite submissions:

Will you be going to Gallery 1988 this weekend? Which of these pieces is your favorite? Let me know in the comments.
