FALLOUT 4 Takes Game of The Year at the 2016 D.I.C.E. Awards

Fallout 4, Ori and the Blind Forest, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and Rocket League all had stellar evenings at the 19th annual D.I.C.E. Awards ceremony Thursday night. For those unfamiliar, the D.I.C.E. Awards are voted on by a board composed of developers and respected industry peers, so receiving honors at this show are a game maker’s dream come true. Many industry insiders regard a D.I.C.E. award as the highest honor there is. Unless you’re Activision, in which case it’s all about them dolla dolla bills!

Todd Howard and Bethesda Studios were among those who went home quite pleased: Fallout 4 took the coveted Game of the Year award, alongside honors for Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction and Role-Playing / Massively Multiplayer Game of the Year. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Ori and the Blind Forest, and Rocket League also snagged three awards each–the latter of which won Sports Game of the Year. Sorry, Fifa!

The biggest winner of the night, however, was late Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, who was honored with the Lifetime Achievement award. Nintendo of America boss and Iwata’s iced-comrade Reggie Fils-Aimé was on hand to accept the award for the Iwata family. He is the sixth person to receive this honor at the D.I.C.E. Awards, and lord knows it is well deserved.
