Ezra Miller Responds to THE FLASH Losing Another Director

Last month, Dope director Rick Famuyiwa stunned DC fans by dropping out of the fast-approaching solo film The Flash. Word has it the up-and-coming auteur clashed with Warner Bros. studios over his edgier version of the speedy superhero story. This made Famuyiwa the second filmmaker to dash on The Flash, following screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith, who left last April. While such shake-ups might seem like worrisome signs for DC fans, The Flash‘s star isn’t worried.

Though The Flash isn’t set to lens until January 2017, its leading man Ezra Miller has already gotten to suit up as the Scarlet Speedster for appearances in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and the upcoming Justice League. But his next big screen appearance will come this month in the Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, playing a curious new character named Credence. We’ll have more for you on this film and Miller’s role soon. But we took the opportunity of this magical interview opportunity to ask for Miller’s response to Famuyiwa’s departure, and how he feels it’ll affect the future of The Flash.

“[I feel] sad, a little sad.” Miller began, “Love Rick, but super grateful for all the work he has done. And trust the process, you know what I mean? I trust these processes. I think from a distance, observing the processes of a production of the film can seem–I dunno–interpersonal, or dramatic. But it’s actually just these are groups of people working to make a piece of art together. And you know, things work out. Things don’t work out. I definitely feel like ultimately things will work out. I’m extremely excited about The Flash. It’s funny. We’ve had sort of this tragic relay race of the passing of the baton of this project. But it feels like each person who has won the race has brought something really special to it, which I think will ultimately be in the work we create.”
