External Hard Drives, Free Games, And More With Xbox One’s June System Update Now Live

Xbox’s Phil Spencer announced a slew of improvements heading to the Xbox One last month and today the update is finally available for download.

Xbox One players can now use up to two external hard drives, real names, get free games, and more with the June system update. Possibly the most anticipated improvement of the lot comes in the form of no longer needing Xbox Live Gold to access apps such as Netflix, Hulu Plus, and HBO Go. In fact, more than 180 apps will now be accessible to everyone on both the Xbox One and Xbox 360 regardless of their Xbox Live standing. Additionally, Hulu will offer three free months of Plus to XBL Gold members in the US who are new to the paid service.

There are new capabilities that also include improved SmartGlass integration and the arrival of Games with Gold for the Xbox One. As of right now, you can download Halo: Spartan Assault and Max: The Curse of Brotherhood for free on the Xbox One. It’s unclear if both games will be made available for the whole month as opposed to the two weeks per game model that we’ve grown accustomed to on the 360. Nonetheless, there are now major discounts available to Xbox One Gold members to go along with the free games.

You can take a look at all these changes in Major Nelson’s June system update overview video below:
