Explore THE DARK TOWER’s Connected “Kingdom” in New Video (Exclusive)

There are other worlds than these within the multiverse of Stephen King, but all roads lead to the Tower. King’s magnum opus, The Dark Tower, explored many recurring concepts and characters while chronicling the journey of the Gunslinger, Roland Deschain. In the upcoming film, Idris Elba will portray Roland as he embarks on a quest to find and protect the Tower, which connects all of reality. Naturally, there are going to be a lot of references to King’s other stories along the way!

Columbia Pictures has released a new video featuring Elba’s voice as Roland lays out a few unmistakable references to some of King’s most famous stories, including one that shares Roland’s chief opponent, the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey). There are even a few connections that you may not have guessed.

From the top, the video takes us The Shining‘s Overlook Hotel, where Danny Torrance shins against the darkness. In another realm, the sewer from It is seen, followed by the aftermath of Carrie White‘s deadly vengeance at her prom, before taking us to Andy Dufresne’s cell in The Shawshank Redemption. Finally, the video leaves us in the broken world of The Stand, where the Man in Black is known as Randall Flagg.

There are even more references to be found in the film. At Comic-Con, director Nikolaj Arcel told us about a reference to Salem’s Lot that may be difficult to find. But now that we know about it, we’re going to be keeping an eye our for it!

The Dark Tower will be released on Friday, August 4. What did you think about the new video for The Dark Tower? Let’s discuss in the comment section below!
