Last month, Nerdist.com revealed in an exclusive announcement that DreamWorks Animation is reviving Voltron for a new animated Netflix series, entitled Voltron: Legendary Defender. In fact, thatâs actually all we knew about Voltron: Legendary Defender… until now.
Thatâs right, connect your dyna-therms and activate your interlocks because weâve got a brand new red-hot Voltron exclusive for you. Today, we can reveal that the showrunners will be Lauren Montgomery and Joaquim Dos Santos. If you donât know their names, then you definitely know their work: Montgomery was a producer on Legend of Korra, a storyboard artist on Avatar: The Last Airbender, as well as a director for DC Animated movies, like Green Lantern: First Flight. Likewise, Dos Santos served as an executive producer on Legend of Korra, as well as a director for Avatar: The Last Airbender, and various DC animated projects, such as Justice League: Unlimited.
Join Jessica Chobot as we take a look at what these showrunners could bring to the table for the reboot, and recap what the original series was all about for those of you not in the know, on today’s Nerdist News.
And if you haven’t already bought your tickets for WonderCon, you’ll definitely want to now because our own Jessica Chobot will be moderating the official Voltron: Legendary Defender panel on Friday, March 25th, in Room 151, from 6:00 â 7:00pm. Joining her will be executive producer Joaquim Dos Santos, co-executive producer Lauren Montgomery, writer Tim Hedrick (The Legend of Korra, Avatar: The Last Airbender), and special guests. What special guests might those be, you ask? Perhaps the cast? Perhaps a life-size Voltron? Perhaps Dan Casey in a poorly made Zarkon cosplay? You’ll have to come to the panel and find out — and you’re not going to want to miss it because you’ll be treated to never-before-seen footage, brand new artwork, and you’ll receive a limited edition WonderCon exclusive lithograph. Details on when and where exactly you can see it will be coming soon, so keep your eyes locked on Nerdist.com in the meantime.
