Exclusive Video Premiere: “Aether Curtain” by Dustin Wong & Takako Minekawa

The most jarring thing about the video for “Aether Curtain” is that it looks exactly how it sounds. Close your eyes and what you’ll hear initially are Shibuya-Kei staple Takako Minekawa’s chiffon vocals hovering headily above art rocker Dustin Wong’s guitar arpeggiations. However as that sonic palette begins to blend together, before the aural paint ever touches the canvas, you can easily imagine a slow moving whirlpool gaining momentum while iridescent bubbles pop to the quick plucking sounds of Wong’s fingers.

And then you open your eyes and what you see is what you already had in your mind’s eye. Supplementing to the surreal sonic textures is a live-action kaleidoscope visual presentation–Minekawa’s head floats and turns as she cooes out her sweet vocals. Dustin Wong is treading water, or maybe committing to some interpretive dance in the backgrounds. The way everything sort of moves inward in a clockwise motion makes me think this whole thing could be an abstract art peice about keeping time, and perhaps it is. I have now listened to it so many times that an hour has elapsed without my taking notice.

Pretty trippy, right? Let us know what you guys thought of “Aether Curtain” in the comments below.
