Exclusive: Vertigo’s FABLES #149 Preview

You know that sinking feeling you get in the penultimate episode of a new season of Game of Thrones? Well, that’s how Fables has been making us feel for nearly two years since creator Bill Willingham announced the long-running series would finally come to an end with issue #150. Speaking on a personal note, discovering Fables in 2002 was one of the most formative moments in my comics-reading career. It made me realize that comics were so much more than just your standard superhero fare, and that there was a whole wide world of incredible creators out there just waiting to be discovered. But enough about me — Fables is coming to an end and we have your exclusive sneak peek at issue #149.

Written by Bill Willingham and illustrated by Andrew Pepoy, Steve Leialoha, Fables #149 continues us on our breakneck pace towards the epic series finale. All signs — fairytales included — point to a showdown between two sisters, Rose Red and Snow White. Will they be able to resist the pull of history or will they destroy each other in the process? How will Bigby contribute to tearing the two apart? Well, this cover by Nimit Malavia might offer a clue:

“The end of the Fables world looms as an epic battle brews between two sisters. Will Rose Red follow fairytale tradition and betray Snow once more? And what role will Bigby Wolf play in their rift? Also featuring “The Last Story of Briar Rose” by FAIREST: IN ALL THE LAND artist Chrissie Zullo.”
