Exclusive: Journey through the Wormhole with New INTERSTELLAR Text Adventure Game

Back in November, Christopher Nolan took the world on a journey unlike anything they had seen in a long time. Interstellar’s journey through the wormhole was one that stemmed from hard scientific research and Nolan’s love of classic science fiction stories and space films. These stories of the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s invoke memories of days gone by where children looked to the stars and wondered what kind of magic could be out there waiting for us.

Available today on Digital HD, the Interstellar team over at Paramount Pictures is looking to celebrate the film’s home release by bringing back just a little more nostalgia. Now, you too can take the journey out into the unknown with the Interstellar Text Adventure game.

While some know exactly what that means, especially anyone involved with our Ready Player One book club, there are still those too young to know what a text adventure is and too stubborn to look it up in a different browser tab. Text adventures, also known as Interactive Fiction, are exactly what they sound like: games that are built entirely out of a story told to the player though text descriptions. Like the example above from the movie Big, the player can interact with story by inputting simple commands to move the adventure along. Check out the Interstellar game’s official synopsis below:

You are one of the twelve Lazarus Mission astronauts sent through the wormhole ten years prior to the events of INTERSTELLAR. The INTERSTELLAR Text Adventure game, written by executive producer Jordan Goldberg, explores your fate on your mission to find another habitable planet.

Let us know what you think of the game in the comment section below, or hit me up on Twitter (@MattDelhauer) and let me know how the heck I get past those basalt columns.

Interstellar is available today on Digital HD, and will be released on Blu-Ray March 31, 2015.

  1. Jax says:

Ending 2 happens when you plant three of the four probes in their ideal spots but put one in a lazy spot, ie, one without risk. Then go to cryo sleep when you find out the planet is doomed. The end =p

  2. algomeysa says:

So I died in various ways (running out of oxygen, etc.) and I managed to get to endings 3 and 4 of 4 (4 being the “right” ending). But I can’t figure out what endings 1 and 2 are. Anyone, anyone?

    • Dvd says:

      Only managed ending 4.
Curious how you got to 3.

      • algomeysa says:

for 3 after you get the probes report that the planet isn’t habitable, instead of going into hypersleep you go forward to the bridge and turn off the robot with the keyword and send the signal that the planet is habitable, the cowardly way out in hopes of rescue.

    • Jim says:

I got ending 1 – 2 of the 4 probes were destroyed in an earthquake, so I couldn’t get the data right. Failed the mission, left for dead. Cheery!

      • algomeysa says:

        Ok, that’s 1 3 and 4.   I wonder how you get to ending #2

        • Jax says:

Ending 2 happens when you plant three of the four probes in their ideal spots but put one in a lazy spot, ie, one without risk. Then go to cryo sleep when you find out the planet is doomed. The end =p

        • algomeysa says:

ok, so to sum up, ending 1 is when you put all 4 probes in the wrong place.   ending 2 occurs with 3 probes in the right place and 1 in the wrong place.   ending 3 occurs when you go forward to the bridge, disable the robot with the keyword, and send the false report, the cowardly way out.   Ending 4 is when all probes are in the right place and you get the reports and go into hypersleep.

Ah! I haven’t played one of these in years!

I died hopping around on rocks. :/ Humanity is screwed.

  4. mwruger says:

Is that the adventure game from BIG?

  5. Dave Wittle says:

    Brings me back! 🙂
