Turns out that the fine folks over at DC Comics are a bunch of blockheads. No, I’m not calling them stupid, you dummy; rather, they’re huge fans of LEGO and they’re wearing their love of interlocking bricks on their sleeve this fall with a series of LEGO-inspired covers in support of LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. While you’ll have to wait until November to get your hands on these, we have an exclusive sneak preview of the covers for The Flash #36 and Green Lantern #36.
This is just the latest in a string of monthly themed variant covers for DC Comics. January saw a slew of Scribblenauts-inspired covers, followed by a very Steampunk February, and a Robot Chicken takeover in March. For April, DC went MAD for Alfred E. Neuman’s birthday, celebrated the sixties with groovy Mike Allred Batman ’66-style art in May, and dropped some Bombshells in June. Much like Comic-Con, July was all about Batman 75 for the company formerly known as Detective Comics, whereas this month brings out the narcissist in every hero with selfie variant covers. September will revive the 3D motion covers in honor of Future’s End, and October will offer up some seriously spooky Monster variants. Basically, if you’re a hardcore comics collector with a craving for custom covers, then DC has you, for lack of a better term, covered.
