Exclusive: Dark Horse Comics’ ABE SAPIEN #17 Preview Looks Monstrously Good

Something spooky this way comes, comic book fans, and it’s crawling from the primordial ooze of the Mignolaverse. Last week, Dark Horse Comics kicked off a celebration of Hellboy‘s twentieth anniversary called “13 Days of Hellboy” by announcing a new series called Frankenstein Underground over at MTV. Now it’s our turn to revel in the Dark Horse Comics debauchery with an exclusive preview of Abe Sapien #17 from Scott Allie, Mike Mignola, Sebastián Fiumara, and Dave Stewart. Last issue, Abe found himself exposed to a mysterious mutagenic gas erupting from the Earth, and ran into two different apocalypse cults, one of which worships him as a deity. Now, transformed into something more monstrous, Abe must find a way to deal with the rampaging monsters outside while he’s holed up with a ragtag group of survivors.

ABES #17 CVR

Here’s the official synopsis: “People think Abe Sapien’s transformation means he’s connected to the monsters taking over the world. Now, returning to the town where he was shot, and where his transformation began, Abe seeks sanctuary with a strange group of survivors.”

Abe Sapien writer and Dark Horse editor-in-chief Scott Allie also offered up this exclusive quote: “Abe’s worked hard at clinging to his denial of any relationship to the monsters ravaging the earth. The walls he’s built around himself will crumble, and some really diabolical developments will push him toward the answers he fears.”

  1. Would it be possible for you guys to have an image gallery one can scroll through? Because what I have to do to see these is click on one, click on it again to get it remotely large enough to be readable, hit back twice, scroll down to the next one and then repeat. Or just open them all in separate tabs, which is slightly less cumbersome, but still.
