Andrew Smith’s breakout hit Grasshopper Jungle got you through the summer, with its twist on the YA-post-apocalyptic-coming-of-age-ness and shades of Vonnegut. Winter is coming, and it’s a long, dark haul til March 3, 2015 when his next entry, The Alex Crow, arrives. But here we are to hold you over with this exclusive look at the cover and a reveal of the first chapter.
The Alex Crow is the story of 15-year-old Ariel, a refugee from the Middle East and the only survivor of an attack on his small village. Now living with an adoptive family in Sunday, West Virginia, Ariel’s story of his summer at a boys’ camp for tech detox is told alongside those of a schizophrenic bomber and the diaries of a failed arctic expedition from the late nineteenth century. Thereâs also a depressed bionic reincarnated crow. Check it out here!

Yes, Andrew Smith books all day long. Grasshopper Jungle is one of my favorite reads this year and possibly the funniest I’ve ever read. 100 Sideways Miles was also incredible. I’m so glad he works so hard to get all these books written so I don’t have to wait long for the next amazing read. You rock, Andrew!
Fascinating and awesome. I will definitely be getting this book as soon as possible. Looks like it is going to be another fantastic masterpiece of strange fiction, and I cannot wait!
