TGIMonday, y’all! Yeah, yeah, we get it — you’re not excited to be back at work either, but we figured we’d cheer you up with not one, but TWO comic book exclusives today. Our pals over at Archaia have a brand new series to announce: Darklight, a sprawling sci-fi epic by writer Chad Kultgen (The Average American Male) and artist Piotr Kowalski (Sex, Marvel Knights: Hulk). Coming out in a hardcover edition this April, Darklight brings us to the edges of the universe where three warring races, the Human Empire, the Duron, and the cybernetic Luminids, must join forces to prevent the complete and utter destruction of the galaxy. Who can tip the scales? Not a supernova, not an errant asteroid, but Captain Rhodes and the crew of the H.E. Woden, a name which I can’t help but wonder if it is in any way referencing the apocalyptic British fringe cult Woden’s Folk. Only time will tell; in the meantime, check out this killer preview art.
Here’s the official solicit text:
WHY WE LOVE IT: From New York Times bestselling author Chad Kultgen (The Average American Male; Men, Women, & Children) and artist Piotr Kowalski (Marvel Knights: Hulk, Sex) comes a sci-fi epic that is truly one of a kind.
WHY YOUâLL LOVE IT: Perfect for fans of the gritty realism of the rebooted âBattlestar Galacticaâ coupled with the sense of exploration and teamwork found in classic âStar Trek.â
WHAT ITâS ABOUT: We poisoned our planet. Sucked it dry of natural resources. Killed one another in the name of gods that never existed, and survived despite it all. Now, at the very edges of the fabric of space-time, the universe itself is starting to decay. Three warring racesâthe Human Empire, the organic Duron, and the cybernetic Luminidsâmust band together to stop their mutual destruction, and the future of the galaxy rests on Captain Rhodes and the crew of the H.E. Woden.
