Exclusive: ‘All Your Base’ Are Belong to Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.

Robot versions of Chris Hardwick and Jessica Chobot? Check. Philosoraptor wielding a double-bladed lightsaber and doing his best Star Wars Kid impression? Check. Fantastic animation from Ron Yavnieli? Check and mate. Yep, according to my checklist, it looks like we have a brand new music video from Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. on our hands. The Detroit-based indie rockers have been putting out their uniquely dreamy style of indie pop since late 2009, but they first appeared on my radar thanks to a blissed-out cover of Brian Wilson’s “God Only Knows” on their Horsepower EP. Now they’re putting their memes where their mouths are in a video for “All Your Base.” Fans of infectious minimalist electro-tinged indie pop and the Internet-fueled mayhem of stuff like Animeme Rap Battles will find plenty to like, but honestly, I just like the conceit that all of these meme-types are made to fight to the death by cruel robotic overlords.

Considering this comes on the heels of Fortress Social Club’s cover of Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Coming Home,” it’s been a good couple of weeks for fans of indie rock on the Nerdist Channel. For even more awesome content like this, be sure to subscribe to the Nerdist Channel so you don’t miss a beat (or synth stab (or throbbing bass line)).

What do you think? What other memes would you like to see do righteous battle? Let us know in the comments below or tell me on Twitter.
