Exclusive Album Stream: REUNITED STATES OF BEING By PUJOL

Daniel Pujol, the Doctor Who-watching, prolific garage rocker from Nashville, just gave us the aural equivalent of a bang-bang. After delivering KLUDGE, the most melodically and instrumentally realized album of his already impressive discography, PUJOL did a bit of retroactive tweaking and remixing to his 2012 album, UNITED STATES OF BEING.

Despite the whirling shroud of cathartic fun that surrounds PUJOL’s music, he often broaches subjects that are more serious than you might anticipate, especially if you are tuning in with the sole intention of giving yourself head bang whiplash. I like to think of PUJOL’s music as the perfect soundtrack for a bar fight that broke out after a debate about Kant turned sour.

Listening through REUNITED STATES OF BEING, you hear sounds that are less frayed though still punchy, beefed up vocal tracks and a brighter high end. I like the fact that these edits prohibit simply labeling PUJOL garage rock–that becomes a tenuous categorization at best. This is a musician who really cares about the integrity his creative output (hence the revamped reissue) though he embraces the chaos associated with the idiom of amplified guitar music.
