Ewan McGregor Already Forgot His One Line From THE FORCE AWAKENS

When you are one of the most revered Jedi Masters in all of the galaxy far, far away, you have a lot on your plate. You can’t be expected to remember every single thing you did, and you certainly can’t remember every little thing you said. Even if you only had one line in The Force Awakens.

Ewan McGregor, a.k.a. young Obi-Wan Kenobi from the Star Wars prequels, said on The Graham Norton Show that he couldn’t remember the one solitary line of dialogue he recorded for J.J. Abrams as part of the voices Rey hears during her vision. In fact, he told Graham Norton that he didn’t even know where his line was used in the movie when he saw the film (which he did like). Without Norton’s assistance McGregor might still be sitting on that couch trying to remember what it was he said at all.

The line in question is actually a combination of McGregor and the OG Obi-Wan, Alec Guinness, saying, “Rey, these are your first steps.” Guinness is responsible for the “Rey,” even though he passed away in 2000. McGregor said Abrams took a line of Guinness saying “afraid” from the original films and edited it down to just the “Rey” part.

Apparently McGregor’s contribution came very late in the making of The Force Awakens, only two weeks before it was released, and it was through an email that Abrams asked McGregor to do it.

For a segment of the movie we’ll be dissecting and over-thinking until Episode VIII comes out and answers a lot of our questions, it’s pretty funny to realize that Obi-Wan himself already forgot about it.

What did you make of Rey’s vision when she held Luke’s lightsaber? Don’t forget to tell us in the comments below.
