‘Evolution of Wonder Woman’ Supercut Embraces Some Obscure Moments From the Past

This weekend, Wonder Woman is tearing up the box office and proving that it shouldn’t have taken 76 years for DC’s Amazon heroine to headline her own feature film. Considering Wonder Woman’s longevity, it’s very surprising that there haven’t been more adaptations in that time. That may be why Burger Fiction‘s new Evolution of Wonder Woman video was expanded to include parodies as well.

Can you name the first woman to play Wonder Woman in live-action? Cathy Lee Crosby wouldn’t be a bad guess, but her Wonder Woman TV movie came in 1974. The first actress was actually Linda Harrison, whom you may recall as Nova in the first two Planet of the Apes films. In 1967, she was part of a failed Wonder Woman TV pilot called Who’s Afraid of Diana Prince?, which starred Ellie Wood Walker in the title role as Wonder Woman’s alter ego. The video actually has footage from that pilot’s Wonder Woman transformation scene, as Walker’s Diana gives way to Harrison’s Wonder Woman.

Another bizarre find in this compilation is the clip from the Filipino parody film, Alias Batman & Robin, with Dawn Zulueta appearing as Wonder Woman. There are parodies that we had long forgotten about, like Sarah Michelle Gellar’s turn as Wonder Woman at the 2002 MTV Movie Awards. Even Adrianne Palicki’s Wonder Woman from the 2011 NBC pilot makes an appearance as she straight up murders a security guard during the climatic fight sequence.

Until recently, the best known Wonder Woman was Lynda Carter, whose ’70s TV series is also represented here. This video also features almost every animated appearance of Wonder Woman to date, including her guest appearance on The Brady Kids. That’s right, Wonder Woman guest starred on animated version of The Brady Bunch. The entire video is a pretty fascinating look back at Wonder Woman’s history, but we’re willing to bet that Gal Gadot’s incarnation of Diana will have several additional appearances in the years to come.
