Everything to Check Out at San Diego Comic-Con

Ah, San Diego Comic-Con. Like Christmas morning for the nerds of the world. Every year we flock by the thousands to America’s Finest City to see all of the best announcements, trailers, and panels that pop culture has to offer. If you can brave the crowds and fend off the Con-Flu, it can be a truly magical experience that releases your inner geek in full force. For those who are attending the holy grail of comics, TV, movies, and more this year, below is your complete guide to all of the best panels and events. The full schedule is now online, and we’ve noted everything we’re looking forward to below. You can check out the official Comic-Con website for the entire list of official events.

What’s Coming

Nerdist House

One thing you won’t want to miss while planning your Comic-Con weekend is our very own Nerdist House! Stop by for some entertainment, hang-outs, live Nerdist shows, a VR experience based on the sci-fi series SONA, a party for the 200th episode of Bizarre States, and much more! Nerdist House will be at Sparks Gallery 530 Sixth Avenue, and is completely open to the public. You don’t even need a Comic-Con badge to attend! More details here.

Deadpool 2 Uncut

It’s unusual for a movie that’s already out to have a big panel, but Deadpool 2 has a new unrated version to promote. Check out the panel in Hall H on Saturday at 5:15 p.m., then catch the very first screening of the new cut of the movie at 10 p.m. in the Horton Grand Theatre. Panelists are as yet unspecified, but Ryan Reynolds would seem to be a no-brainer. Presumably we’ll find out when the uncut film can be seen by the rest of the world, either in theaters or the comfiness of home.

Kevin Smith

With Marvel abstaining from the closing Hall H Saturday spot this year, eternal Comic-Con fixture Kevin Smith is taking the 6:45 p.m. slot, to talk about whatever he feels like. Maybe he’ll talk the Jay and Silent Bob reboot; maybe we’ll learn something more about Moose Jaws. Even if he does neither of those things, the guy has the gift of gab and is sure to entertain.

Doctor Who Panel

This year’s Doctor Who panel will being formally introducing the Thirteenth Doctor, Jodie Whittaker! Her co-stars Tosin Cole (who plays Ryan) and Mandip Gill (who plays Yasmin), series showrunner Chris Chibnall, and executive producer Matt Stevens will all be joining as well.

Nightflyers Panel

Legendary Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin will be attending a panel for the television adaptation of his 1980 novella Nightflyers, along with executive producers Jeff Buhler and Gene Klein and star Jodie Turner-Smith. We’re looking forward to hearing more about Martin’s venture in the sci-fi genre.

Lucifer

With the show recently being picked up by Netflix for a fourth season, Lucifer coming to SDCC feels almost like a celebration. We know that some of the cast and crew will be there, but the details of what they’ll be presenting are still unclear. Regardless, we’re looking forward to seeing them and celebrating their return!

Krypton

Another show from Syfy, Krypton, is making an appearance as well. The network just renewed it for a second season, and fans are eagerly awaiting more news of the story’s continuation.

DC Films

We hadn’t heard any news on whether DC would be returning until Aquaman director James Wan tweeted that the first trailer would be revealed at SDCC. Now that we know that DC is coming, some other projects to look out for are Lego Movie 2, the next Fantasic Beasts installment, Godzilla: King of Monsters, and Mowgli.

Wonder Woman 1984

Along with her fellow member of the Justice League, Wonder Woman is said to be coming to Hall H. Gal Gadot will not only be making a surprise appearance, but it’s reported that there will be a sneak preview of the new film Wonder Woman 1984. Because it’s set to release on November 1, 2019, the movie is only a few weeks into production, so we’re not expecting anything too big. Even so, we’re dying for more info, so this gives us something else to look forward to!

The Walking Dead Panel

Although we don’t have a ton of information yet on The Walking Dead‘s upcoming season, we do know that it will have a panel, which has basically become an annual tradition at this point. The show will most likely be premiering its ninth season later this year, and it’s supposedly the final season for stars Lauren Cohan and Andrew Lincoln.

Iron Fist

Marvel will be making themselves sparse at SDCC this year, but they will make an appearance for their Netflix series Iron Fist. The show is headed into its second season, and star Finn Jones will be attending along with other cast members and producers.

Castle Rock Panel

Castle Rock is Hulu’s adaptation of a variety of Stephen King’s works, and will be produced by J.J. Abrams. In other words, it has all of the ingredients it needs to be a hit. We’re looking forward to seeing the project at its panel, which will include a screening of the pilot. There will also be appearances from the show’s cast, including Sissy Spacek, Bill Skarsgard, and Melanie Lynskey. The panel will be on Friday, July 20 from 12:45-2:00 pm in Ballroom 20.

Glass and Halloween Reboot

We learned back in April that Blumhouse has two big upcoming projects: M. Night Shyamalan‘s Glass, a sequel to his films Unbreakable and Split, and a reboot of the classic horror flick Halloween. We don’t have any more details about what they will be showing or who will be there quite yet, but it’s rumored that Shyamalan, producer Jason Blum, and various members of the casts could make appearances in Hall H.

Mr. Mercedes Panel

Another adaptation of Stephen King’s work, Mr. Mercedes, will be making an appearance. We know there will be a panel about the show’s upcoming second season featuring some of the cast and creators on Thursday, July 19 from 8:00-9:00 pm in room 7AB, as well as the “Mr. Mercedes Immersive Experience,” which will include an augmented reality adventure game, a virtual reality escape room, a presentation from the show’s set designers, a 3D light projection, a photo-op, and a private screening of the show. Sounds like some pretty cool stuff to us!

The fan-favorite show is entering its fifth season, and its first episode, titled “The Dark Year,” will be screening at Comic-Con a week before it premieres on live TV. This will be on Wednesday, July 18 between 6:00-10:00 pm during the Manifest World Premiere and Special Sneak Peek Screenings.

And What’s Not

Game of Thrones and Westworld

Neither of the two wildly popular HBO shows will be hosting a panel at SDCC this year. With Westworld‘s second season concluding only a few weeks before the convention, and with Game of Thrones in the middle of producing its heavily safeguarded eighth and final season, it doesn’t look like there will be anything for them to show fans. We’re pretty bummed about the lack of panels, but on the bright side it means that there is more content on the horizon!

Marvel

Yup, you read that right. While Marvel usually dominates at the event, they won’t be making an appearance at SDCC this year. According to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, this is mostly because they’re not planning on announcing any more movies until after Avengers 4 is out. At least we have Captain Marvel, a Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel, and Guardians of the Galaxy 3 to look forward to, right?

Mission Impossible–Fallout

The newest entry in the Mission Impossible franchise is hitting theaters July 27, so it will not be making an appearance at SDCC this year.

Be sure to check back—more information is on the way!
