Even Batman Would Love This Custom LEGO Arkham Asylum Build

According to Grant Morrison and Dave McKean’s seminal 1989 Batman graphic novel, Arkham Asylum is “a serious house on a serious Earth.” Casual Batman fans probably know it best from the Batman: Arkham video game series or from Arkham Asylum’s appearance in Batman Begins. But in the comics, Arkham Asylum has been a part of Batman’s world since the ’70s. Arkham Asylum is the mental health facility that holds the criminally insane members of Batman’s rogues gallery…although it never holds them for long.

Arkham Asylum has become one of the most iconic locations in Batman’s mythos, and it’s the subject of a very impressive custom build by an Australian LEGO fan named Dayton. While Dayton built his LEGO Arkham Asylum for last week’s Brickvention 2016, he noted that it took over a year of planning and three to four months to build. He also said that it’s comprised of over 18,000 LEGO pieces.

“I feel this was the milestone for me as a builder as this is something I have wanted to build for years now, and I am so happy with how it turned out,” wrote Dayton on his Flickr page. “Almost everything I wanted to put into the moc was built and included…I’ve been building Batman mocs for 3 years now and I think this is my Best Batman moc so far. It is also the biggest build I have ever made.”

LEGO Arkham Asylum 2Dayton also posted a video tour of his Arkham Asylum build, which explores the exterior of the building and the five rooms inside. Harley Quinn, Bane, the Joker, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Two-Face, and Penguin occupy the maximum security cells in the sublevel, but the video reveals that the superstrong Killer Croc has his own cell as well.

As an added touch, Dayton placed Batman and Catwoman on the roof of his Arkham Asylum, with Robin and Nightwing acting as backup inside.

Considering that there’s a LEGO Batman Movie coming next year, we may actually get to see a LEGO Arkham Asylum in that film. But until then, this is the LEGO Arkham Asylum of our dreams.
