Udon’s EVANGELION Collectible Pins Will Debut at Anime Expo

Back in 1995, Neon Genesis Evangelion hit Japanese television and rocked the anime industry with its unforgettable take on the mecha-apocalypse. Evangelion is arguably one of the most influential anime of the last two decades and it continues to find new admirers. Next month, Udon Collectibles is giving Evangelion fans a new way to celebrate the series.

Oh Monday, Udon revealed that it is releasing the Evangelion Character Collector’s Pin Series at Anime Expo in Los Angeles from July 1 to July 4. According to Udon, each pin is made up with “high quality cloisonné hard enamel” that creates a jewel-like finish, with “multiple silk-screen printing process…to ensure every detail was replicated properly resulting in each character looking faithful to their on-screen presence.”

As you can see, the first six characters featured in this set are Shinji, Rei, Gendo, Asuka, Mari, and Kaworu. Considering that Mari didn’t appear until Rebuild of Evangelion, her inclusion over Misato, Toji, or even Ritsuko is somewhat surprising. But if Udon makes additional Evangelion pins down the line, we’d love to see those characters get their due as well.

In the meantime, Udon is encouraging fans to head to its booth at Anime Expo early, because the company expects to quickly sell out of the Evangelion pins. At $15 per pin, many Evangelion fans may be encouraged to buy all six. Additionally, Udon publishes the Evangelion Chronicles art books, which will presumably also be on display at Anime Expo.
