You’re gonna neat a bigger boat. Shoe.
To celebrate 41 years since Quint, Hooper, and Brody sported a pair of Top-siders aboard the Orca, Sperry footwear has announced an entire line of Jaws–inspired kicks to be released this May. This is not a drill. I repeat: this is not a drill. Shut up and take our money.
The collection ranges from $70-$85 and includes styles in men’s, women’s, and children’s sizes. While these certainly aren’t the first Jaws shoes we’ve seen, from life preserver eyelets, to rubberized buoy lace-toppers, Sperry’s attention to detail sets this line apart. Each pair even comes complete with movie-themed box, “blood-stained” tissue paper, and collectable prints of signage from the film.
Of course, sharks aren’t the bloodthirsty killers they’re made out to be in the cult classic (you’re actually more likely to be bit by another human on the New York subway in your lifetime than by a shark), but for better or for worse, Jaws’ shark “Bruce” remains one of the most iconic characters in cinematic history. Its creation showed audiences just how effective an animatronic prop could be, and changed the special effects game forever.
Should you find yourself in Los Angeles, the last remaining rendition of the polyurethane-rubber shark will go on display at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures later this year. The model will be joined by other set pieces, like the underwater apparatus and fin used in both Jaws and Jaws II.
Exactly how long of a run Sperry has in the works remains unclear, so we’ll be compulsively checking the website over the next few weeks for our chance at the goods. The full line can be viewed in the gallery below.Â
