Enjoy FOXED! the Stop-Motion Short David Cronenberg is Adapting

Animation fans will be pleased to hear that James Stewart and Nev Bezaire’s stop-motion short film Foxed! is set to be adapted for the big screen. David Cronenberg and longtime collaborator Martin Katz will produce, with Stewart making his feature film debut as writer and director.

The film is a dark fantasy that follows Emily and the children of Chiswick looking to reclaim their town after they are kidnapped by foxes and locked in the mysterious Bloo Goo Mines. Stewart describes Emily as “a sympathetic girl,” while “the foxes are terrifying.” It sounds like a character-driven story full of heart, a splash of horror, and a healthy dose of adventure. I’m sold.

According to Katz, the look and mood of the film will be similar to Henry Selick’s Coraline, and it will combine stop-motion animation with modern 3D techniques.

If you haven’t seen the short, take a look here:

Like what you see? Yeah, so do other people. This short has gained serious traction, having screened at 90 film festivals worldwide and releasing on iTunes in 60 countries. It’s also won a slew of awards, including Best Animation at Toronto Urban Film Festival and Quebec Children’s Film Festival.

Foxed! is set for release in 2017, so there’s a bit of a wait. But don’t fret, you can keep up with the news via Stewart’s Twitter feed @jamesstewart3D
