Emily Blunt May Become the New MARY POPPINS

There are two things everyone knows. One: just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. And two: casting Emily Blunt in your movie is pretty sweet, too. Especially when you are going to cast her as a beloved and iconic character.

Variety is reporting that Blunt is in discussions to play Mary Poppins in the sequel to the role Julie Andrews originally made famous for Disney in 1964/ The film will take place 20 years after the first in London during the Depression, with the Banks family again playing a central part in the story. The script would be based on stories from P.L. Traver’s follow-up novels about the magical nanny.

Blunt would be reuniting with director Rob Marshall, who directed her as the Baker’s Wife in Into the Woods. They will also be joined by two of Into the Woods‘ producers, John DeLuca and Marc Platt. Blunt is obviously a tremendous actress with a wide range (which is needed to play the tough but much loved Mary Poppins), and she showed her singing chops in Into the Woods. She seems like the perfect person for this role.

However, reports at this time say only that she is in talks for the part, and nothing is official just yet. We have reached out to Disney for further confirmation.

There has been renewed interest in Mary Poppins since 2013’s Saving Mr. Banks, although that film itself tells us how Travers would feel about this news. Uh… sorry, Ms. Travers, but we’re still excited.

So what do you think of the possibility of Blunt grabbing that infamous umbrella? Let’s talk about it and start fantasy casting the rest of the movie below.
