Elon Musk Teams Up With Radio Flyer For Toy Tesla

Tired of using that old fashioned fuel source—your little tiny legs? Want to show up for your next playdate in silent, all-electric style? Then you need… a Tesla Model S for kids!

That’s right. It seems that titan of tech and master of the moonshot Elon Musk has set his sights a bit lower for his latest endeavor (about knee height), partnering his electric car company, Tesla Motors, with famed wagon builder Radio Flyer to create a scaled-down replica of the bestselling Tesla Model S sedan.

Like the real Model S, the Tesla Model S for Kids is a premium vehicle at the forefront of technology and design. Style-wise, it’s essentially a perfectly scaled-down replica, although it has had its roof ripped off in order to make room for a relatively huge steering wheel and child. It also boasts a battery with Flight Speed lithium-ion technology, which, according to the above video, means you’ll get three times as much play as you’d get from competitors’ cars. Seriously, this is the Tesla of toy cars. Literally.

Depending on setting, the Tesla Model S for Kids has two possible top speeds, 3 mph and a blistering 6mph. It also has features like working headlamps, which are great for those who’re coming home late from a meeting and are afraid of the dark. There’s also a “frunk” (front-trunk), an additional battery, a mini car cover, and an input available for music players for those who want to rock out as they roll by other people on the sidewalk.

The price tag for the Tesla Model S for Kids, like the real Model S, is the only downside here. This little electronic speed demon comes in at an allowance-busting $500, although that’s before tax rebates (there are no tax rebates, it’s a toy car). There’s no word yet on a mini Falcon 9 from Musk’s other company, SpaceX, although Jeff Bezos did reuse a toy rocket earlier this year.

The Tesla Model S for Kids will be available in May, and you can pre-order it here.
