For fans of the horror genre living in the US, it’s been a long road to seeing a release date for the Eli Roth-produced feature film Clown. So long, in fact, that while promotion for the film was gearing up in Europe and Asia last summer, I asked Roth what the status was for America during Nerdist’s Conival at San Diego Comic Con. Flash forward almost one whole year, and the movie has finally hit theaters and VOD.

A Grimms’ Fairy Tale of sorts, Clown sees a loving dad, played by Peter Stormare, who at the last minute dons a clown costume for his son’s birthday party. What he doesn’t know is this particular costume isn’t a costume at all, but the skin of a demon that will slowly turn him into a monster unless he consumes young children. Pretty messed up, huh? Directed by Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s Jon Watts, Clown is a nightmare of a horror movie that materializes many fans worst fears: an evil clown living right at home with them.

Nerdist had the chance to speak with Roth about the making of this movie and what makes clowns so darn scary. We also discussed the road to releasing the film and the mythology created for the movie. Check out our conversation in the video above!
