I think most of us were pleasantly surprised that Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man turned out as well as it did, but we still can’t quite shake the “What if?”s of an Edgar Wright-directed version. Mostly it’s because, in only four major feature films, Wright has cemented himself as one of the finest directors of comedic action working in the filmmaking field today. His next feature, the crime thriller Baby Driver, has begun production, and while we still don’t have much of an idea about what to expect, Wright is good and kind enough to be documenting the making of the movie via his Instagram account. The photos so far don’t show much of anything, but they’re still cool and fun.

This shot features Bill Pope, the director of photography on the film. Pope has an exceedingly impressive resume, which includes Wright’s Scott Pilgrim and The World’s End, The Matrix trilogy, Darkman, Army of Darkness, and the second two Spider-Man films for Sam Raimi, and even Jon Favreau‘s upcoming The Jungle Book.

More shots of filming, these appear to be in a recording studio.

It’s awesome to see Wright being so forthcoming with documenting the shoot, and also so sparse when it comes to what we’re looking at. I can only hope/imagine that when the stars like Ansel Elgort, Jon Hamm, Kevin Spacey, Lily James, and Jamie Foxx show up, we’ll start seeing more of them.

Baby Driver is the first film Wright has written solo since his micro-budget debut A Fistful of Fingers in 1995. It’ll be released in March 2017, and we cannot wait!
