Star Wars and food are a perfect pair. Every aspect of the movies provides inspiration for all fans, from home cooks to professional chefs. Whether it’s droids or walking carpets, there’s always a way to turn even the most trivial of set pieces into an edible masterpiece.

Gilles Leblanc of Les Gateaux de Gilles in Quebec created a tasty homage to the X-34 Landspeeder. Owned by Luke Skywalker, the X-34 has an engine that allows it to float above the ground, but this cruiser is made entirely of cake. Constructed from chocolate cake and chocolate buttercream, the cake is covered in an orange fondant with carefully detailed front grills and a clear window. Chef Gilles even gets all three of the signature air-cooled thrust turbines just right.

While this cake seems large it actually looks to be only about 12-inches in length, remarkable for so much detail work. On his Facebook, Leblanc states:

“A long time ago in 2014, in a land called Face Book……..30 cake allies collaborated with the idea of becoming one with the force, bringing together creations that brought forth an unbalance in the cake galaxy. To celebrate the 38th anniversary and the release of Episode VII, these Jedi decorators present to you Star Wars Cakes – The fondant Awakens- MAY the 4th be with you.”

A quick search of Star Wars cakes on the website cakesdecor.com shows some amazing decorative work inspired by the Star Wars universe. The craftsmanship is astounding when you realize that every one of the pieces is edible. The Landspeeder is truly a delectable masterpiece and one that I wouldn’t trade, not even for passage to Alderaan.
