The first free DLC for Star Wars Battlefront, the Battle of Jakku, will release in about two weeks, but EA Games has announced it won’t be the last free item for the game. Announced on their official site today, EAÂ and the game’s developer, DICE, plan to release more free DLC for the game as time goes on. There were no official release dates revealed, but EA promises “more of what you love about the game, like new maps and Star Cards, for free in the coming months.”
New maps are always fun and Star Cards are the biggest thing that can turn a battle in your favor in the game, but a promise of these things being free may not be enough for critics to change their minds about the game. It also won’t be enough to make players who payed the $50 for the Season Pass feel like they will truly get their money’s worth. Fans will just have to wait to see what EA has in store for them before they can decide if this free DLC for Battlefront is a bust.
The Battle of Jakku content will include new maps set on the desert planet featured in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as well as a new game mode called Turning Point. The game mode dramatizes the canonical story of the battle that took place on Jakku between the events of Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Players on the Rebel team must race against the clock to capture Imperial outposts, while the Empire digs in and tries to defend.
